Bachelor of Biomedical Engineering Technology (Hons)
KPT/JPS(R/523/6/0288) 02/29 (MQA/FA9005)
INTAKES : March, October.
DURATION : Full-time, 4 years
PROGRAMME LEVEL : Bachelor
INTRODUCTION PROGRAM :
Biomedical Engineering Technology is the application of engineering philosophy and skills to the medical field. It combines the design and problem solving skills of engineering with medical and biological sciences to help improve patient health care and quality of life. Students will gain exposure and experience handling various equipment and apparatus, such as patient monitors, electrocardiographs, infusion devices, ventilators, patient-care computers and other related medical devices.
Our curriculum provides a strong foundation in engineering, medical, science, mathematics and humanities. We integrate the core knowledge of engineering disciplines and modern biology to solve problems encountered in biological systems. This curriculum will allow students to analyse from both engineering and medical perspectives. The graduate should be able to advance both in engineering and medical disciplines.
Course Description:
The Bachelor of Biomedical Engineering Technology programme at UoC is a four-year programme that prepares graduates to become competent and committed biomedical technology engineers with the ability to apply technical knowledge in designing, analysing, repairing, and solving problems. Graduates also become skilled engineering technologists, combining exposure and experience with a wide range of equipment and apparatus, including patient monitors, electrocardiographs, infusion devices, blood-gas analyzers, patient-care computers, and other related medical devices and equipment.
Course Training and Practical:
The programme is structured with 60% technical and practical courses/content and 40% theoretical courses/content. At the final semester, students will be exposed to laboratory sessions and technical courses such as Medical Devices Maintenance and Repair. There will also be 28 weeks dedicated to complete Final Year Project 1 and 2. The curriculum is designed to expose students to the necessary experience and technical aspects before they enter the industry fields.
Students will also have Industrial Training at private or government hospitals. Practical training can also take place at organisations that manufacture medical devices or are related to the bioengineering medical field.
